I was trying to figure out a way to love it. I shouldn't be unhappy on the court. On being drafted 16th overall in and joining the scuffling Bulls, who had won 13 games the previous season -- the first after Michael Jordan retired. He made his debut at 19 years old. Chicago would win just 32 more in his two full seasons with the team. The Bulls, when I got there, I got in a couple of fights.
And I was just on edge, like I always am. It would carry on off the court. I was so intense. I couldn't even see it. It's a beauty to watch, because you got a guy working hard every day, but then you also understand this guy is going through a lot. Then losing games -- I hate losing. I'm not used to losing. I [had never really lost], and then you get to the NBA, you're losing. So that really bothered me, and I didn't understand that, "Hey, you're a rookie, and [there are] pros here, and you're going to get your butt kicked every day until you get a better team.
It didn't work like that. The Bulls The Bulls were ahead of their time, but I didn't really accept their help. I just thought it was a general diagnosis vs. But that's back then. When I got to Indiana, we started to really get a [mental-health] diagnosis, and then I just started to do therapy and breathe in and meditation and different things like that.
That was really cool, when I started to work on that type of stuff. We got way more holistic. Just going through childhood stuff, talking about it. I think that was way more useful than just [prescribing medicine]. Some people try to do that, and I don't think that's the right approach. You got to diagnose somebody the right way. It's hard for a [teammate] So, you want to just be there to support and encourage but, at the same time, maybe, "Why would you lash out in practice?
You need to come down. This is basketball. Indeed without the proper boundaries, guidance and tools needed to deal with unjust situations, a disproportionate response can be dangerous, especially as a Black man in America.
But now, almost two decades after he was excoriated on national TV for his role in The Malice At The Palace, Metta has rebounded from issues with his temper and mental health , and has done the difficult work to not only save himself, but to help others. I remember after he won the championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in , one of the first things he did was thank his psychologist, Dr Santhi Periasamy. To give context for that comment, back then, an athlete admitting any type of mental health issue was opening himself up for endless ridicule, from fans and the more unkind sections of the media.
But the ridiculous theory runs that fame and money somehow insulate athletes from human suffering. Indeed, athletes themselves were not always aware of how mental health could affect their own teammates.
I did not know anything about mental health. See Less. Rotowire Apr 12, Rotowire Apr 11, Kobe Bryant out Friday vs. Denver, Sunday vs. See More. They've pretty much kicked one butt after another at home. They were tied with Oklahoma City for the Western Conference's best home record, going in Staples well not counting the Clippers anyway. Yes, you have some pretty "Hollywood" people sitting on the floor, but those are some of the Lakers most intense fans.
I double-dog-dare you to bad mouth the Lakers to Jack Nicholson! There will be a test ahead as the Denver Nuggets are a pretty solid road team too, and as good as the Lakers were at home, they haven't been as good on the road with a losing record away from home. Time will tell if they can keep up the winning ways without World Peace in Mile High. Of course, there's no guarantee he would make a difference either. The Lakers bench, in particular Jordan Hill, have exceeded expectations. Hill, in fact, has reached double-digit rebounds in both games and had a double-double in Game 1.
Steve Blake didn't do much in Game 2, but he had nine points and four assists in Game 1. The complementary players like Ramon Sessions, who scored 14 points in both games, have also played well.
