This isn't a single act, but a sick tradition for Sabretooth. Once every year, specifically on Logan's birthday, Creed will track him down, wherever he is taking advantage of his advanced senses and inflict some pain on Wolverine, whether it be a simple beating or something more twisted.
No matter what he chooses to do, the tradition ensures that Wolverine's birthdays are far from a happy day for Logan himself and any of his loved ones who are unfortunate enough to be on Sabretooth's radar. Here it is; the event that began the aforementioned way that Creed commemorates his enemy's birthday. As chronicled in Wolverine 10; in the early s, Logan was living in Canada with Silver Fox, a young Blackfoot woman, before she was murdered by Victor Creed on Logan's birthday.
Confronting Creed about the death at a nearby bar, the future Sabretooth beat Logan, and thus the tradition was born. Future stories have cast doubt on whether Silver Fox's death happened as depicted in the original tale, suggesting it may have been simply an implanted memory in both Logan and Creed's minds, especially since Silver Fox turned out to later be alive. However, as Logan himself put it, the anguish he felt from the death was all too real.
Sabretooth described this as his master-stroke, and from his sick perspective, its not hard to see why. Daken was Wolverine's son, born from Logan's marriage to a woman named Itsu, and the boy inherited his father's mutant abilities, but none of his morality. Who remembers Power Pack? Yeah, same here. Wolverine proceeds to collapse a tunnel on Sabes so that he and the Morlock can escape. Not stopped that easily, Sabretooth later launches a solo attack on the X-Mansion, stalking Psylocke through the home, only for Wolverine to show up and fight him out a window.
Eventually, they rumble their way off a cliff and into a lake, allowing Sabretooth to escape. Wolverine immediately stabs Sabretooth in the heart. During the encounter, Creed murdered a scientist in cold blood and he and Logan came to blows over it, before being pulled apart.
In the present day, Sabretooth — working with Omega Red - shows up at the lab and Logan, convincing Maverick to cut him loose, goes to attack him. Sabretooth whoops his butt in 30 seconds flat and imprisons him with the rest of the X-Men. Soon enough, though, Wolverine breaks loose and attacks Omega Red. Before he can turn his attention to Sabretooth, Cyclops blasts the furry villain through a wall.
That said, the first third — everything before the Blob shows up in all his corpulence and it goes off the rails — was actually decent. And Liev Schreiber was a pretty great choice to play Sabretooth, much better than that wrestler from the first movie. So, for the sheer thrill of seeing these two go at it on the big screen, this one makes the list. Anyway, this brawl plays out a lot like their first canonical fight, with Wolverine confronting Sabretooth in a bar after Sabes killed Logan's lady, Silver Fox.
Almost immediately, Schreibertooth tackles Hughverine through the wall of the bar and proceeds to stab and cut him, with Wolvie barely able to put up any defense. Eventually, Sabretooth drops a ton of lumber on Wolverine, digs him out and throws him into a passing truck, and then stomps his bone claws off.
Nightcrawler decapitates Deadpool and stabs him in the head, while Sabretooth and Wolverine brawl. Wolverine very begrudingly doesn't murder him.
Meanwhile, the Hand and Hydra are planning to attack Wolverine so they can destabilize Madripoor, only to get wiped out by Sabretooth without anyone else knowing. Sabretooth did something noble here -- he willingly allowed himself to be imprisoned to answer for his crimes. As mentioned earlier, Wolverine needs to go into berzerker mode in order to gain his power boosts in a fight.
However, most of the time, Logan fights the urges and keeps himself in line. This does two things. The first is that it keeps him in control of his actions and allows him to fight without hurting innocents around him. On the other hand, the second thing it does is cause Logan to fight himself and his own animal urges while also fighting a villain.
When battling a superior fighter like Sabretooth, that puts Logan at a disadvantage every time. This is because Sabretooth enjoyed losing himself to his animal rage. There are times where Sabretooth is in control -- such as after the inversion in AXIS as well as when he lived with the telepath known as Birdy.
This was a point of time where Sabretooth was able to control his urges and began to build his own criminal empire. However, thanks to his son Graydon killing Birdy Sabretooth , Sabretooth went mad once again and proved ultimately that all his enemies would prefer to see him tamed than giving in to his animal urges, which usually results in mass carnage and numerous deaths. It also helps that Sabretooth is infinitely stronger when in an animal rage.
It is bad enough that Sabretooth is bigger, stronger, and more animalistic than Logan. It also isn't enough that Sabretooth has a better healing factor -- with or without the adamantium skeleton.
However, add in the fact that he is also much faster than Wolverine and it almost isn't fair. The two men are close to the same speed when running, but Sabretooth has a speed that is even greater when he is battling someone. According to both the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and Wolverine: Weapon X Files , Sabretooth has the ability to attack faster than the human eye can follow.
It also indicates that his fighting speed is his most enhanced skill. He has attacked people with guns before they have a chance to pull the triggers and he can keep up with, and often run circles around, those he is fighting. While he is a match for Wolverine running, when Sabretooth gets down on all fours, he has enhanced speed, similar to that of a jungle cat and can outrun just about anyone, or close in on targets in deadly time.
Add in superhuman reflexes, and Sabretooth is easily faster than Logan. This also gives Sabretooth a special power -- an assault leap, similar to a tiger's pounce that can take down almost any enemy. As we mentioned, Sabretooth has a favorite past time, and that is hunting down Logan on his birthday and beating him to the brink of death before leaving him there to ponder the fact that he can't win. The brilliant thing is that Sabretooth has never had problems finding Wolverine, no matter where he goes.
Logan could be in Japan. He could be in the mountains. He could be in a remote forest. It doesn't matter because Sabretooth will always find him and that is because of his deadly tracking skills.
Wolverine himself is an expert tracker and can find anyone and everyone thanks to his sense of smell. However, Sabretooth is an expert tracker even without using his enhanced and heightened senses. Those senses match Wolverine's -- including ultraviolet and infrared vision, hearing that can detect the softest sounds, and the same sense of smell that Wolverine possesses, one that can pick out minute chemical variations.
However, thanks to his military training, black ops work and natural hunting and tracking skills at a much higher level than Wolverine, he is able to trump his rival on most occasions -- which is why he never has trouble tracking him down on his birthday for his yearly beating. Another major advantage that Sabretooth has over Wolverine is the fact that he doesn't mind cheating to win. A perfect example of this is in Wolverine Vol. This was the issue where Sabretooth killed Wolverine's lover Silver Fox.
He then tracked down Logan and beat him almost to death it was his birthday, by the way. After the fight, it was Sabretooth that stood tall with Logan down and out. Victor then confronted Wolverine again in New Orleans, after killing John Wraith and taking a blood sample from him.
Victor fought Wolverine only to be interrupted by Gambit. Wolverine was told that Victor and Stryker were subsequently working together to capture various mutants, culminating in tricking Wolverine into agreeing to have adamantium bonded to his skeleton by claiming that Victor had gone rogue and had killed the woman Wolverine loved. Wolverine then left, after learning this. Victor, angered at Stryker that he let Wolverine go, demanded the adamantium procedure.
Despite the animosity between the two of them - made even worse when Stryker revealed that, contrary to his deal with Victor, he cannot merge adamantium to his skeleton because it would kill him his healing factor is less powerful than Logan's in an act of rage, Victor tried to kill Kayla for real. Wolverine heard Kayla's screams and attacked Victor and defeated him in combat.
Finally having the chance to kill Victor, Wolverine chose not to give in to his animal instincts and instead knocked him out. Victor returned to aid his brother. Wolverine and Victor, now working together, were able to decapitate Weapon XI; sending its head, still firing optic blasts, down into the cooling tower. Wolverine coldly informed Victor that despite his help, their relationship is over. Victor simply reminded him that they are brothers and they can never be finished. Victor also claimed that only he gets to kill Wolverine.
Victor then jumped off the side of the cooling tower. After Stryker's island, Victor had evolved into an even more bestial creature. He was bigger and stronger, but was unkempt in appearance. He took on the name "Sabretooth", became associated with Magneto and joined him, Mystique and Toad in what would later become the Brotherhood of Mutants.
